WELCOME TO

CAMP RIVER RUN

An Unforgettable Outdoor Camp Experience

OUR MISSION

Inspired by nature and flowing with optimism, we offer children who are battling life-threatening or disabling medical conditions an outdoor camp experience to rejuvenate their youth and strengthen their spirits.

We offer an unforgettable weekend summer camp in the beautiful mountains of Idaho for kids ages 7-17 battling life-threatening or disabling medical conditions. For many of our campers, this is the first time they get to experience the outdoors and camping. The camp is located at Pilgrim Cove on the Lake in McCall, Idaho, a breath-taking location where campers get to enjoy nature firsthand. Campers get to participate in a ton of different actives, games, and theme nights. No camper is left out because of their illnesses; actives are designed to involve everyone! We pair each camper with their own counselor so they get the individual attention they need throughout the camp experience. We also have highly-trained medical staff on site to meet all of our campers’ individual medical needs.

Camp River Run is a 501(c) (3) Non-Profit

ABOUT US

Camp River Run provides a 4-day summer camp in McCall Idaho designed for kids between ages 7-17 who are coping with medical conditions or life threatening illnesses. We want these children to experience nature and camping without compromising their medical needs. Camp River Run is committed to provide excellent support and care for our campers.  Camp River Run also provides 3 one day camps in the Treasure Valley to help introduce parents to the incredible impact and to break the ice.  Trained and skilled health care personnel are important to all of us at camp. Those entrusting their children or loved ones to the awesome weekend offered by Camp River Run, deserve the peace of mind and comfort in knowing that those special campers are being cared for by the best. Our Volunteer health care staff is licensed according to their relative field and has been selected in accordance to needs of our campers. All of our staff and volunteers are CPR and First Aid certified. 24 hour availability of health care and coordination for our campers’ needs is provided during camp. It is important that we tailor our volunteer duties to the specific needs of each of our campers. Information will be gathered during the application process, as well as one on one visits with camper and parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding these needs.

OUR HISTORY

Camp River Run was created because of a dream by founder Shawna Van Beek. This is her dream that started it all.

“My dream of starting a camp for kids affected by life-threatening illnesses began with a 17-year old young lady who was in and out of remission with her battle with cancer. Despite multiple hospital visits and uncertain prognosis, she always remained so positive and optimistic about the future. One summer’s afternoon over ice cream I asked her what made her tick; what she said impacted me for the rest of my life.

She told me that what kept her going was knowing that she would have the opportunity to serve as a junior camp counselor later that year at a camp for kids with cancer. She went on to say that going to that camp every summer as a child made her and all the other kids feel “normal” for one week out of the year. That hit me like a ton of bricks—that these kids just want to feel normal—and going to camp is how they achieve that feeling.

It was that day that sparked my life’s dream, and I am so happy to say that with the help of six other wonderful members on the Camp River Run Board of Directors, that dream came true and the first week of camp in Cascade was held in July 2008!”
