The Idaho STAR Motorcycle Safety Program was created in 1994 and began rider training in 1996. STAR is an Idaho Division of Career-Technical Education program and is accredited by the National Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators (SMSA).
STAR stands for Skills Training Advantage for Riders, for we believe there are real advantages in being properly trained and prepared to ride. Idaho STAR training is associated with a 79% reduced crash risk.

The Idaho STAR Vision:
Idaho STAR is the premier organization for educating the public with strategies to reduce crashes and fatalities involving motorcyclists.
The Idaho STAR Mission:
We share knowledge and skills to make motorcycling safer.
To fulfill our mission, we offer courses for every rider providing hands-on training that helps make Idaho’s roadways safer for all of us. In fact, a review of all 7,738 motorcycle crashes statewide from 1996-2014 indicated that STAR training is associated with a 79% reduced crash risk and an 89% reduction in the risk of a fatal crash.
Beyond training, we also have a variety of online resources available throughout this site, so be sure to explore and let us know how we can help you make every ride a safe one!
You can also follow us on Facebook, and remember to check our website regularly for reminders and dates.
Schedules and registration for 2020 classes will be available online on February 1st and by phone starting on February 3rd (8am-5pm, M-F).

Props to STAR’s Training Manager, Shawn Purl who is participating in the 1st Annual Idaho Adventure Bike Challenge this weekend. He’s kicking butt as an amateur dirt rider and is the only participant who is riding with street tires and has left his bags on!
