ROLLING HILLS PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL
About RHPCS
The mission of Rolling Hills Public Charter School is to develop educated and engaged citizens through high expectations for student behavior and academic success in a small, safe, structured environment.
In September 2005, Rolling Hills Public Charter School opened after receiving its charter from the Idaho Charter School Commission the previous year. Currently, the school serves students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Rolling Hills subscribes to the belief that a school with a low threat of bullying and harassment can accelerate the learning of students. Strong character education is evident throughout the school and the attributes of responsibility, reliability, thoroughness and kindness are apparent in all aspects of the school program. The school’s culture fosters high academic achievement as evidenced in the school’s strong performance on state assessments and student performance in the classrooms.
At Rolling Hills Public Charter School, we believe that learning occurs when:
-
learners are expected and encouraged to learn
-
learners see the connection between what they learn and the real world,
-
learners are actively engaged in purposeful tasks,
-
activities are integrated and meaningful,
-
all learners have advanced learning opportunities,
-
learners work individually and as members of a group,
-
learners are supported with coaches, mentors, and advocates,
-
challenged learners have an individual plan, and support is an intrinsic part of the educational program,
-
learners internalize that what they learn and do in school makes a positive change in the community,
-
learners see themselves as part of the community and find ways to serve the community.
Focus on Kindness
Rolling Hills employs a character education plan with a focus on kindness and zero tolerance of teasing, taunting, bullying, gossip and negative peer pressure. The focus of empathy and respect develops virtuous citizen leaders. Our school leadership, teachers and staff are committed to making school a safe place for the children entrusted to our care. The character education method uses a school-to-work emphasis to make the behavior expectations relevant to the real world. We also believe that a kind environment should be extended through the potentially tumultuous junior high years.
Mission & Vision
Mission Statement:
Rolling Hills Public Charter School will develop educated and engaged citizens through high expectations for student behavior and academic success in a small, safe, structured environment.
Philosophy:
Rolling Hills Public Charter School is centered on the belief that when students are given a learning environment with low threat to their personal safety and self esteem, and highly challenging academic content is presented, the inevitable outcome is accelerated learning.
Rolling Hills Public Charter School is committed to providing a positive, safe and drug-free environment, which enhances self-esteem, provides exemplary role models, and optimizes each student’s potential.
Rolling Hills Public Charter School promotes personal responsibility, critical thinking and individual respect. Rolling Hills Public Charter School students demonstrate the six pillars of character (trustworthiness, responsibility, caring, respect, fairness and citizenship) in their daily interaction with peers, staff and the community.
Rolling Hills Public Charter School faculty and staff are highly qualified, dedicated and offer academic excellence. Rolling Hills Public Charter School students will be well-prepared for high school and college. Teachers use an array of academic tools to promote higher-level thinking processes that foster effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, personal and social responsibility, thinking and reasoning skills, expanding and integrating knowledge, and learning-to-learn.
Rolling Hills Public Charter parents are actively involved, sending their child to school prepared to learn. They will understand their child’s individual academic and social progress and encourage their child to put forward his or her best effort, while taking responsibility for his or her own actions.
Vision:
The vision at Rolling Hills Public Charter School is to provide a distinctive, academically rigorous learning experience in an educational environment where all students can excel and feel safe to explore. The teaching faculty and staff will model an attitude of respect for individual differences and demonstrate a strong commitment to high behavioral standards. Rolling Hills Public Charter School will welcome the support of parents, extended family, and the local business community, as we foster life-long learners through an overall enriching curriculum.
