About Us
West Valley Humane Society serves Canyon County, Idaho with a holistic array of services to people and animals that include: safe and secure temporary housing, medical care, food and nutritional support, enrichment, exercise and behavioral modification for strayed, lost and homeless pets. West Valley Humane Society was founded in 2011 after Canyon County Animal Shelter became privatized as a charitable nonprofit entity. The organization serves just under 9,000 animals in Canyon County and surrounding areas each year and continuously looks to provide support to network partners and the rescue community. West Valley Humane Society is a brick and mortar, open admission animal shelter that is a private, charitable, nonprofit Idaho 501(c)(3) Corporation.
West Valley Humane Society is an open admission shelter for canines in Canyon County, and limited admission for other species of animals, and works with other counties/regions on a limited intake basis . This includes transferring in animals from overcrowded areas. WVHS is staffed by an average of 32-40 employees and relies on the care and and support of our dedicated volunteers and foster parents. Since our founding in 2011 we have served tens of thousands of domestic animals ranging from dogs and cats to chickens and pigs.

Stray & Community Drop Off
West Valley Humane Society is a private, charitable, nonprofit animal shelter that serves Canyon County, Idaho. As a 501(c)3 corporation, we rely heavily on the support of our community.
How the Adopt From Home Program Works
At West Valley Humane Society, we know that the shelter environment is not always a good fit for our pets. The transition from a home environment where they are comfortable to a shelter environment can put a stress on their health and behavior.
Animals that are adopted from a home environment tend to be happier, healthier and have less behavioral concerns than pets in a shelter environment. The Adopt From Home program allows an owner or foster to adopt an animal out from the comfort of a home.
For animals to participate in the Adopt From Home Program the following must happen:
• The pet must be brought to the shelter to be vetted and evaluated.
• If the pet has any medical records like spay/neuter history or vaccine records, please bring them.
• Pets would leave the shelter in the care of their owner or caregiver as a foster home during the adoption process.
• For pets that are already altered: we will evaluate the animals health and bring them up to date on vaccines and parasite treatment. Staff will make the animal an account, post them as available for adoption on our website and send them back to the comfort of a home.
• For pets that are not altered: we will evaluate the animals health, bring them up to date on vaccinations and parasite treatment and spay/neuter them prior to adoption. They would then go back to the comfort of home while waiting for adoption.
• Animals available for adoption would be promoted by the shelter as well as caregiver in order to get them adopted into a new and loving home.
