Dr. Megan LeFave
Owner, DVM, CCRT, cVMA
Dr. Megan grew up in a small town where her passion for animals was nurtured. She was an active member of the local 4-H, she grew up riding and showing horses and raised backyard farm animals. After high school, Dr. Megan attended Cal Poly Pomona where she obtained a Bachelors’s Degree in Animal Science. While at Cal Poly, she was active on the equestrian team and lived at the W.K. Kellogg Horse Center, where she volunteered her time helping to deliver foals and taking care of the large horse herd.
In 2008 Dr. Megan graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School. She originally wanted to expand her passion for horses and sports medicine and participated in an equine internship in rural Nevada. Following her internship, she decided to take her career in another direction and participated in a mentorship program at East Valley Emergency Pet Clinic receiving advanced training in small animal emergency medicine and critical care. Dr. Megan feels that being there for an owner when their pet is critical is very important, and helping an animal recover from an emergency situation is incredibly rewarding.

Nicole enjoyed her time learning rehab and helping pets have an active life again, but she missed general preventative care medicine. Nicole has been working at Hendricks Veterinary Hospital since the beginning of 2020 and enjoyed building relationships with her clients and sharing her broad knowledge of veterinary medicine.

Pet acupuncture is one of the alternative medicine treatments that we are proud to offer our clients here @ OnPoint Veterinary Hospital. Here is some information on pet acupuncture if you are interested in this non-traditional pet therapy.
What is Pet Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice that has been around for thousands of years. While it was originally developed for use in humans, doctors have found that this ancient tradition actually confers many medical benefits to pets as well.
Pet acupuncture involve inserting fine needles into specific energy points in the body. The theory behind this is that pain or sickness can occur when the body’s natural energy flows are disrupted. By placing acupuncture needles on specific energy points, it spurs a healing reaction within the body’s cells.
Benefits of Pet Acupuncture
One of the main benefits that pets can receive from acupuncture treatments is pain relief. In animals suffering from a chronic pain condition or dealing with wound recovery, acupuncture can help to ease pain receptors in the body. This in turn helps an ailing pet to rest better and recover faster than just letting them heal on their own over time.
Acupuncture can help to improve blood circulation in the body, which confers a variety of health benefits (better oxygenation of cells, increased energy levels, etc.). The procedure has also been shown to reduce inflammation caused by certain autoimmune diseases. It can also help a trained veterinarian to pinpoint the source of a pet’s ailment, leading to better treatment outcomes.
Conditions Treated by Pet Acupuncture
Pet acupuncture can help to relieve symptoms from the following:
• Gastrointestinal problems
• Reproductive problems
• Arthritis in senior pets
• Respiratory problems, including asthma
• Nerve injuries
• Skin conditions/allergies
• Cancer treatment side effects
• Healing from minor injuries
How Pet Acupuncture Works
An acupuncture appointment is completely pain-free for most pets. The veterinarian inserts the acupuncture needles in energy points along the pet’s body. Some animals react so well to the procedure that they become very relaxed. Larger animals, such as bigger-sized dogs, do sometimes experience some discomfort from pet acupuncture. Their larger size may sometimes require the use of larger needles.
The only side effect from pet acupuncture is sluggishness, which can sometimes last for up to 48 hours. This is actually a good thing in many cases! It means your pet is getting better rest as their body adjusts and heals. There are no other known side effects from acupuncture.

Quality dental care makes a big difference in the quality of life you give your pet. That’s why you should take them to the vet each year for regular dental visits. OnPoint Veterinary Hospital provides pet dentistry services for pet owners and their beloved companions in Middleton, Idaho.
Pet Dentistry Services Offered
Early intervention can help ensure your pets don’t end up losing their teeth because of untreated dental issues. OnPoint Veterinary Hospital offers a variety of pet dentistry services in our Middleton, Idaho facility, including:
• Exams
• Cleanings
• X-rays and other radiology
• Tooth repair
• Extractions
• Polishing
• Bonding
If you notice your pet having trouble eating because of pain in their mouth, it’s a good idea to bring them in for an evaluation. You don’t want your dog or cat’s dental issues to progress to where their health may become at risk.
The Importance of a Professional Teeth Cleaning
Pets can experience the same build-up of tartar that afflicts humans. Left untreated, that tartar can harden into plaque. Once it gets below the gum line, it can infect the gum connective tissues that keep your pet’s teeth in place. That can lead to periodontal disease and other health issues.
Regular cleanings keep tartar build-up under control. OnPoint provides pets with anesthesia to keep them from getting too anxious during the procedure. Our teeth cleanings include a polish, fluoride treatment, and sealant.
Your dentist may perform x-rays to get a better look at your pet’s tooth structures. OnPoint Veterinary Hospital staff make sure pets feel safe and comfortable before going forward with any procedures.
Importance of Home Dental Care
You don’t have to wait until a vet visit before providing pets with proper dental care. It’s a good idea to make home dental care part of your pet’s regular grooming routine. Feel FREE to call the staff at OnPoint Veterinary Hospital if you have questions about the proper way to clean your pet’s teeth or need recommendations on the best products to use.
As you clean your dog’s teeth, look for signs that they may be having issues that need to be examined by a vet, including:
• The sight of extra teeth
• Loss of appetite
• Having trouble chewing food properly
• Experiencing pain when chewing
• Swollen or bloody gums
Many animals become irritable and out of sorts when they are having dental problems. If you suspect that your pet’s temperament change may be related to issues with their gums or teeth, you should have them checked out ASAP.
