About Us
Jerry and Susie Larson, founders and owners of Mad Swede Brewing Company, are two Boiseans passionate about making amazing craft beer. They founded Mad Swede with the goal of brewing the highest quality beers. They do this by combining quality farm-to-table ingredients and innovative brewing processes. We know that great beer is truly a blend of art and science!
Over 30 years ago, while still in college, Jerry brewed his first batch of beer. Jerry continued experimenting with new recipes over the years. He carefully recorded different brews and methods, like a mad scientist dedicated to his art! In, addition, Jerry and Susie both spent much of their careers working as engineers for Hewlett Packard. They both love science and learning about new things. As they dove deeper into the world of beer, their desire to share their passion for great beer with the Boise community grew. This naturally led to Jerry and Susie opening Mad Swede Brewing Company in Boise, in October of 2016.
Our goal is making amazing beer using the practiced, fine-tuned methods that Jerry spent years perfecting. In addition, our primary ingredients, malted barley and hops, are grown right here in Idaho. Not only does this help support Idaho farmers, but it reduces our carbon footprint because our ingredients don’t travel far. The combined results? Mission accomplished! Mad Swede makes award winning beer!
Although Boise is already great, Mad Swede Brewing Company is committed to making our community an even better place to live. We accomplish this by collaborating with local businesses and charities; participating in community events; supporting the arts; and striving for sustainability. Our tasting room, adjacent to the brewery, provides a fun, safe environment for guests from all walks of life. Itself, it is a community within our community.
Mad Swede is comprised of adventurous drinkers, brewers, dreamers, and thinkers who, like the Vikings themselves, dare to venture toward new and exciting territory.

MUNDO LOCO MEXICAN-STYLE LAGER

Mundo Loco is a delicious, light, sessionable, mexican-style lager. It’s perfect for this crazy world we live in.
HIMINGLAEVA HAZY PALE ALE
ABV 5.5% IBU 38
Himinglaeva Hazy Pale Ale is gluten-reduced! It’s juicy with notes of coconut, tropical fruit, and tangerine; light and drinkable.
HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS!
ABV 5.3% IBU 35
This beautiful amber ale features light notes of cocoa, walnuts, and brown sugar with a subtle bitter dryness for a clean finish.
HELHEST OAT ALE
ABV 5.2% IBU 25
Helhest is the Norse goddess Hel’s ghostly three-legged horse. Even undead horses love oats, so we created an oat based ale to pay tribute to this spectral steed. Behold! The kuyt beer, a 15th century Dutch style with a deliciously fruity and nutty flavor, a silky mouthfeel, and hazy appearance.
HELM OF AWE, ROBUST OATMEAL PORTER

This robust oatmeal porter will fortify you during the fall and the long winter months with its smooth, malty, roasty, complex flavor.
NAKED SUNBATHER NUT BROWN ALE

GABF (R) 2019 Gold Medal in the American Style Brown Ale category. Naked Sunbather nut brown ale is–well–nutty and smooth with bold roast character. Featuring delicate northwest hops, this earthy ale will satisfy year-round.
DANEGELD GOLDEN ALE

SUNSTONE HAZY IPA

CABER TOSS THIS, YE WEE LAD, SCOTCH ALE

Wee Heavy, malty, caramel, with a smooth dry finish. If you’re not Scottish, this one will make you wish you were!
FREYA’S PALE FROM EXERTION

This fresh hop pale ale contains complex notes of citrus, pineapple, mango, and melon, with Maris Otter malt for balance.
THE FIRST KING OF KIEV IMPERIAL STOUT

FRESH HOP!
Fresh hop Lost Viking Tropical IPA is now available exclusively in our tasting room on south Cole Road! This beer is our Lost Viking with a twist. It features fresh Cashmere hops grown by Gooding Farms.
The morning of the brew, Jerry and his assistant Mike got the mash cooking, while Cody drove out to Mill 95 and waited for the hops to arrive. As soon as he had the fresh hops in hand, Cody rushed them back to Mad Swede. We made hop tea bags and combined them with the boiling wort. Then magic happened!
