“If Maine has a Lobster Festival and Georgia has a Peach Festival then we should have a Potato Festival with all the pomp and circumstance necessary to celebrate the 13 billion pounds of potatoes harvested each year in this state!” founder and CEO of Roots Family History Thomas Watson said. “As the producer of nearly 1/3 of all U.S. potatoes, it’s high time we celebrate our beloved crop.”
In addition to games, food, and music, there will also be a massive potato art installation featuring chalk art from over 60 local artists.
“There would be no better subject for a festival in Idaho than potatoes,” Watson said. “Over time, Potato-Days will become a tradition for Idaho families and something to look forward to each September.”
Spuddy Buddy, the potato from the Potato Drop, and the Big Idaho Potato Truck will also be at the weekend-long event.
Did you miss the potato drop?
Not a problem. The OG potato from the Idaho potato drop will be there for you to view up close, and if you have kiddos, the perfect place for them will be the bubble garden. At Potato-Days in Meridian, they will have a bubble garden where children can dance, twirl, and blow bubbles.
