Neighbors helping neighbors is an age-old tradition in cattle country, and we have a deep-rooted responsibility to sustain the rural West’s ranching lifestyle by being fair and honest business partners and members of our communities. We work with over 1,000 ranching families across the Northwest to source only the best cattle for our family of brands. As a local employer and family-owned business, we have both the privilege and responsibility to give back to the communities that have supported us along the way.
SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS:
• Joining forces with family-owned farms and ranches, we work to sustain the ranching lifestyles of local producers who embrace the standards required to raise the finest livestock.
• We have helped contribute over 2.4 million servings of beef to both Idaho and Washington food banks through the Beef Counts program since its inception to help provide high quality nutritious beef products to families in need.
• We match employee contributions to nonprofit organizations (not individuals), up to $500 per employee annually.
• Our employees volunteered over 1,300 hours to community organizations in 2015.
• We reduced days away from work due to injury by 21% from 2014 to 2015.
• Agri Beef is proud to be an important part of the Yakima Valley community in Washington state as the Yakima County’s largest employer (900 employees), adding over $500 million to the valley economy and providing high quality training and career advancement opportunities.
PROVIDING A SAFE WORKPLACE
We understand that, by nature, working in agriculture can be more dangerous than other occupations; therefore, on-the-job safety is a pillar of our business. Designated safety officers and annual training activities help us create and implement a strong culture of safety at all our locations.
GIVING BACK
We are dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. We are also motivated to make a difference in our giving, whether it’s our time, talent or financial support. The hard work and dedication of our partners and employees to produce exceptional beef allows us to serve our communities and help make them more vibrant. To learn more about how we give back, please see ‘Request a Donation’ below.
BEEF COUNTS
High-quality protein, which is a critical part of a balanced diet, is in short supply at our local food banks. To fill this gap, we helped found the Beef Counts Program in 2010 in conjunction with partners in the cattle business, grocery retailers, and our local food banks. Over the last 9 years, the program has provided over 2.4 million servings of beef to those who need it most in Washington and Idaho.
Despite our efforts, a huge protein need still exists. If you want to learn more about this one-of-a-kind program and how to donate, please visit:

REQUEST A DONATION
Do you have a cause that directly supports or addresses hunger, agricultural education and awareness, or the health, prosperity, and people of our Northwest communities?
We believe it’s important to focus our contributions towards non-profit organizations that closely align with our values and strongly support the most important basic needs of society:
• Enhancing access and quality of child/family healthcare services.
• Increasing access and availability of proteins to those in need.
• Improving and supporting education, with an emphasis on rural agriculture.
• If your cause aligns with our mission, find out how to request a donation here:

Producing exceptional beef obliges us to take exceptional care of our animals. It’s also just the right thing to do. At Agri Beef, we carry out our proactive approach to animal well-being using techniques and programs informed by leading animal behavior experts like Dr. Temple Grandin and Bud Williams.
Washington Beef is a company that does things right; they pay attention to details. -Temple Grandin
Here are just a few of the measures we take throughout our operations:
• We continually train employees on low-stress animal handling techniques.
• We follow all the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Animal Care and Well-Being Standards.
• Cattle are checked daily for health and well-being by trained cowboys.
• Cattle are given ample room to move and display natural behaviors.
• Animals displaying signs of sickness or discomfort receive individualized attention.
• We provide 24-hour access to an on-call veterinarian
A formal commitment is outlined and documented in Agri Beef’s “Guidelines for Animal Well-Being.” This program encompasses all company locations, all phases of production, and all transport activities, to provide consistent and proactive standards for animal well-being. These standards were developed in collaboration with leading industry experts and are updated continually to reflect the most proactive policies.
Agri Beef does not tolerate the abuse or mistreatment of animals at any time, for any reason.

QUALITY
We know that the only way to consistently deliver high-quality beef is to implement a total quality approach from ranch to table. Therefore, we work hard to only include cattle in our programs that have the potential to consistently produce high-quality grades. After the cattle spend much of their lives grazing pastureland, they will transition to a well-balanced diet of Northwest ingredients.
We carefully craft the cattle’s diets to include wheat, corn, potatoes, hay, and vitamins and minerals. These balanced diets help our cattle thrive and deposit the intramuscular marbling that makes our beef so flavorful and juicy. Healthy, content cattle create safe and healthy beef. Therefore, we implement a comprehensive cattle health program to supplement the care the cattle already receive.
All our efforts from the ranch to the processing plant have helped us improve our USDA Quality Grade over the years. We have increased our Choice quality grade from 63% in 2009 to 80% in 2015. Our beef grading Prime, the highest UDSA quality grade, has increased from 1% to 6% in the same time frame.
FOOD SAFETY
At Agri Beef, we recognize our products are enjoyed by families all over the world, families like our own. So for us, the issue of food safety has always been a personal one. It’s what drives us to deliver exceptional Northwest beef that is unquestionably wholesome by incorporating the most advanced food safety protocols in the industry. When you serve our beef and pork to your family, friends and guests, you can do so with confidence—just as we do.
Over the past 3 years, we have invested over $12 million in food safety alone. Here are just a few of the measures we take:
• We perform over 24 food safety interventions at our Washington Beef processing facility.
• We dedicate a full 8-hour shift every day solely for cleaning our Washington Beef facility.
• We source the highest quality cattle from Northwest ranches.
• We feed nutritionally balanced diets of forages, grains, and local renewable feeds, such as potatoes.
MORE ABOUT FOOD SAFETY
Quality control measures are built into every aspect of our Washington Beef processing plant. SQF Food Safety standards are strictly enforced and serve as the foundation of the operation’s best management practices. In being certified to the SQF Edition 8.0 standard, we are recognized by GFSI as being compliant with their standards through a successful third party audit. GFSI is a globally recognized standard for food safety systems. Our Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program ensures that food safety is always the top priority. Our facility is federally inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and all critical control points are closely monitored to ensure all products have been safely processed.

The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place to live and work. As business that relies on the gifts of nature to make our products, it’s our duty to steward the land entrusted to our care. We embrace our responsibility to reduce natural resource consumption, improve our Northwest landscapes, and ensure our ranching way of life endures for future generations.
Agri Beef is continuously working to conserve land, water and energy. Here are a few of the innovative things we’re doing:
• At the Double R Ranch, our rotational grazing program promotes healthy rangelands.
• We source a majority (when possible) of our cattle feed within 150 miles of each feed yard location.
• Composting is used to recycle our cattle waste into nutrient rich fertilizer for area farmers.
• We have reduced our water use by 40% per pound of beef processed at Washington Beef.
• The bio-gas dome at our processing plant provides for 20% of our natural gas needs.
• We have reduced our electricity use at Washington Beef by 946,800 kilowatt-hours, equal to the consumption of over 13,000 60-watt light bulbs annually.
• Company-wide, we have cut our electricity consumption by 7 million kilowatt-hours from 2012 to 2015.
